While in the pit. the Doctor with the help of the old astrologer, seeks to establish what the creature is. While attempting to make contact with the strange creature Lady Adastra and her entourage arrive in the mine in search of the Doctor who they now believe might possibly still be alive. Meanwhile, the tribe of savage men raids the home of Lady Adastra of her metals.
