- The film was originally to be shot at a high school in Santa Rosa, CA, but after the school board read the script they objected to the violent nature and production was moved to Healdsburg, CA.
- When Sidney is going into her house, the killer comes out of the closet the same way Michael Myers comes out of the closet after Bob in Halloween.
- Drew Barrymore was originally cast as Sidney Prescott (now played by Neve Campbell). But, due to schedule conflicts, Barrymore offered to play the much smaller role of Casey Becker.
- When Casey answers a question that the killer asks, she answers just like Rachel in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers : "It's Michael... Michael Myers!" in the same tone of voice.
