Viewed in component video, the non-anamorphic 2.35:1 DVD exhibits mediocre quality with a dated appearance. Images are somewhat sharp, but fine detail and definition are wanting, for a picture that is quite plugged-up. Contrast and shadow delineation are mediocre, with little visual information in the darkness. Aliasing problems, artifacts and minor pixelization are apparent, for a picture that is, at best, mediocre throughout. The Dolby Digital 1.0 mono soundtrack is undistinguished and basically has nothing to impress. Fidelity is somewhat dated. Dialogue is presented at a comfortable listening level, with voices sounding fairly natural and spatially integrated. It is rather ironic that the preceding installment in the Halloween series is in Dolby Surround. |
